About AARK
The AARK iOS app is a train driver route management app designed to be used by drivers in conjunction with a web-based manager interface.
AARK is non-invasive and easy to use. It takes less than 15 seconds for a train driver to log on and start a route management session and it does not distract them from their safety critical duties while on shift as AARK works in flight mode. AARK also has the ability to manage traction competencies, train driver
licenses, driver medicals, rules and regulations and any ad-hoc competencies that a rail company may require to oversee. AARK eliminates the old “Self Sign” approach to route knowledge and replaces it GPS time stamped evidence of when a driver last drove a particular route, it will also show how much of the route was driven and in what traction type this occurred. AARK will also note if the driver was route learning, refreshing, conducting or being conducted. All this information is used by AARK in order for a driver’s route competency to be updated with concrete evidence of routes that have been driven.
How AARK works
• At the start of a shift the driver logs into AARK via smart phone or tablet. The driver will choose their driving capacity (Designated driver, Driver being conducted etc.) and choose what their traction type is from the list provided.
• Once this info is inputted AARK is live, the phone or tablet can be put on flight mode and the driver can start their duties.
• On completion of the shift the driver logs back into AARK to end the route management session. Information collected during the shift is automatically sent to the AARK driver’s portfolio for interrogation by the AARK algorithm
• The result will be either a competency update for that driver on that particular route or an alert to the Driving Standards Manager to resolve the alert.
AARK Features:
• Provides evidence of drivers route retention based on actual travel during the currency period. Traditional methods (signing route cards) have no firm evidence base after initial route learning and exam.
• Alerts produced when an unauthorised route is travelled.
• Automatically updates route currency end date. Manages drivers’ route knowledge portfolios.
• Alerts for upcoming route currency end dates.
• Allows management of need for route refreshing to be based on reality.
• With respect to route learning, provides assign a new route to be learned by a driver and ensure required number of transits are carried out; give online access to route packs to facilitate study of route.
• Timesheet facility requires self-certification of Drugs & Alcohol; Rested for Duty.
• Entire UK network using sectional appendix mapped into reference database.
• Manages other competencies / certification e.g. traction type; medicals etc. Allows for upload of supporting documentation.
